About HypnoBirthing®
HypnoBirthing® has been used since it was first established in 1989 by Marie F. Mongan. Since then, thousands of women have learnt the techniques and the philosophy has enabled them to have calm, relaxing and wonderful birth experiences. See 'in the news' below for recent press coverings of HypnoBirth.

In Warwickshire I have had some of the midwives comment to me about these women coming into the labour ward extremely calm and having the easiest, most straight forward deliveries.

They have started to really take notice and are fascinated by what HypnoBirthing teaches because in its most basic form, it simply enables women to get back to understanding that their bodies are not faulty and can deliver a baby easily - please see the testimonials at the bottom to read about how other women have felt.
It teaches you how to access all the natural resources within your body by understanding the hormones involved in labour and understanding what can aid and what can inhibit these hormones in the very natural process. By understanding this, women feel more confident in their own abilities to birth their baby and through the use of self hypnosis, which is really just deep relaxation similar to that moment just before you fall asleep, you can allow your body to relax and behave naturally and effectively. We use self-guided imagery to release any previous assumptions or fears you may have about your birth, then we teach you and your birth partner our special breathing techniques which help you to work with your body during the different stages of your birth.

HypnoBirthing® Philosphy
* HypnoBirthing is as much a philosophy of birth as it is a technique or method for birthing.
* Basic tenet of the program is that childbirth is a normal, natural and healthy function for women.
* A HypnoBirthing mum learns to embrace her body’s innate knowledge of birthing, to relax into her birthing process, working with her body.
* Women don’t need to be taught how to birth, they simply need to learn about birth.
* You come to understand that when the mind is free of stress and fear that cause the body to respond with pain, nature is free to process birth in the same well-designed manner that it does for all other normal physiological functions.
* Birth is not a medical incident!

What HypnoBirthing does not involve
There is no stage hypnosis style techniques! Using the self-hypnosis techniques you cannot do or reveal anything you would not wish to under normal circumstances. You are fully conscious, in complete control and even more acutely aware of your environment. The only difference is you are deeply relaxed and comfortable.

What women have said about HypnoBirthing®

I am so glad that I found out about Hypnobirthing, I could not recommend it highly enough (and frequently do!). I was very anxious about giving birth but after the course I completely understood what was going to happen to my body and why birth is so much easier if you are able to stay calm. During labour I used the slow breathing techniques we'd learned and my contractions were completely painless, I just felt some pressure. I was so relaxed that the actual birth took the midwife completely by surprise as she thought we must be hours away and hadn't got anything ready for the baby! Because of Helen's guidance the whole of my labour and the birth of my son was a wonderful experience.
(1st child, 2 hour labour, using gas and air for 3rd stage, natural vaginal delivery with no tears or stitches.)

“ The birth really was fantastic, and I don't think it would have gone so well without all the preparation”. During the changeover of shift in hospital I could hear them saying "and she's done all this on just gas and air?" They kept telling me how well I'd done but I really wouldn't say *I* did anything except learn about hypnosis-my body just took over.”
(14 hr labour, using only entonox (gas and air), natural vaginal delivery, no tears or stitches)

“I am so grateful to you for all your help. The main thing that kept me calm was my HypnoBirthing recording - it really came into its own. My hospital notes record whole labour (from start of 1st stage to end of 3rd stage) as 50 minutes, I'm still amazed by it all and can't quite believe she's arrived. I couldn't have had a better labour experience after all that. I really firmly believe that all the work I've put in, planning the birth paid off.”
(Breech baby turned naturally with hypnosis. Natural vaginal delivery after a 50minute labour with no pain relief at all - after epidurals with both previous children!)

"The HypnoBirthing was incredibly effective. My 11lb 1oz daughter was born at home, in a birthing pool, after an established labour of only 36minutes, although really I think it was longer, it's just that the HypnoBirthing was so effective I thought I had just eaten too much dinner and had a bit of wind with the earlier contractions. I didn't need to use any pain relief at all and I didn't tear, not even a graze. The midwife was stunned."
(4th child, second time using HypnoBirthing)
